With the West coast (and particularly the Pacific North-West) having a reputation for a specific cool brazen sound on the musical scene, leaning more and more towards psychedelic and indie rock, it surely is an area ripe with music we are bound to feature sooner or later. Today we have occasion to do so as Seattle natives Black Nite Crash are set to release their full-length album ‘Washed in the Sound with Black Nite Crash’ via US boutique label Neon Sigh. There’s a lot of diversity on this album – all of it good and recommended to quench your thirst for new and worthy music.

Black Nite Crash are not newcomers on the scene. Led by Jim Biggs (vocals, guitar) and joined by John Parker (bass), James Stone (guitar), Tony Zuniga (drums) and Claire Tucker (guitar/vocals), the band got their start two decades ago and is a staple on the Seattle music scene. During their existence, Black Nite Crash has involved more than 30 members with Jim Biggs being the last remaining original member.

Work on the ‘Washed in the Sound with Black Nite Crash’ LP began before the pandemic, the songs a reflection of a band finding its feet again, with (then) relatively new members Claire Tucker and Sharim Johnson putting their imprint on this batch of songs. Then lockdowns began before tracking could be completed.

“This is the band’s fifth full length in nearly twenty years of existence, and it looks to be the start of a period of more frequent releases as we work through our backlog of unreleased recorded songs, not to mention the surplus of new material we’re working on even now,” says Jim Biggs.

Earlier, Black Nite Crash released ‘Sugarwave’, a high energy single with a driving, melodic take on indie-rock influenced post-punk, and the lead track ‘The Take’, a storyteller-led pulsating noir singalong with a trippy silhouette-laden video. Both tracks preview the most diverse set of songs the band has ever released, combining their trademark fuzzed out guitars with some newer flavours.

Come October 14, folks can find the ‘Washed in the Sound with Black Nite Crash’ LP everywhere online, including Apple MusicSpotify and Bandcamp.  Black Nite Crash’s album release show happens at The Six in Portland on November 5. They will also play Sunset Tavern on December 16/17 for Seattle’s Tremolo Festival.
