Hayes Warner’s debut single, “Like You’re In Mine” smolders with tortured longing. It’s a where-are-you-tonight modern torch ballad lavished crystalline piano, eerie etherealness, and Warner’s smoky soulful vocals. “Like You’re In Mine” poetically conjures that maddening sentiment we’ve all felt late at night walking around a big city, searching for something to fend off the nothingness we feel inside.
The song’s seductive and sentimental video dips into a sleepless New York City night where Warner prowls the streets restlessly mulling over her lost love. A lifelong New Yorker, Warner finds solace in the shadowy recesses of the Big Apple she loves to call home.
“Growing up, I used to love strutting around the city with my headphones on, pretending I was in a music video. I would blend into the crowded streets without anyone noticing me,” Warner says. She does just that in the video for “Like You’re In Mine.” Charging through Chinatown, 125th street, and the ferries of the East River, Warner sings the song she wrote in the city she loves about the soundtrack of her life.
I wrote ‘Like You’re In Mine’ when I was starting high school. At the time I was pretty self-conscious, especially about my music, which is such a big part of who I am. I used to wander around New York with my headphones in, recording random melodies and lyrics into voice memos and trying to make sure no one saw what I was doing. When I filmed this music video and had to sing openly on the streets of New York, it felt like I had really come full circle. I think I’ve grown a lot since writing this song, and I’ve stopped caring so much about what other people think or what they might judge me for. I’m really excited to release this song and to continue sharing my music!
