Kimberly York (formerly known as Kimberly Morgan York) has been pretty active since she stormed onto the scene almost four years ago. FUN, her 4th release, is out today and it’s got a lot of meat on the bone for only being 30 minutes long. There’s a lovely cover of Neil Young’s “Hold Back the Tears”, that makes you wish Patsy Cline should have sung it. The title track couldn’t be titled more accurately, as it’s a whole lot of fun! But our favorite number here is the steady-paced “People Don’t Like It.” It’s an uplifting number about holding your head up high.
People don’t like it when you’re pretty
People don’t like it when you’re smart
They wanna hold you down at their level
The want to tear you Apart
Later in the song, she encourages the listener to stand strong saying ‘in the end, it don’t matter if people don’t like it.’ This should be mandatory listening for middle schoolers.
FUN captures Kimberly’s evolution as an artist, combining her soulful country background with her infectious energy. This album marks a dynamic new chapter in her career, showcasing both her growth and her unyielding passion for music. With FUN, York invites listeners to experience her most exhilarating and joyful work yet.
FUN, was produced by David Barbe (Drive-By Truckers, Mercyland), who also adds his bass and songwriting skills to the album. FUN is out today, wherever quality music can be found.
