Combining the elegance of classical music with dark, synth-heavy experimentation, Matthew J Van Howe is a boundary-pushing composer and songwriter based in Chicago. He has consistently challenged conventions and reinvented himself on every new project, resulting in a diverse discography full of abrasive soundscapes and memorable melodies alike. He is a technophile, leveraging unique instruments like the EWI and cutting-edge artificial intelligence in his process. Van Howe’s musical perspective is informed through his journey across a vast array of media including film, sculpture, board games, dungeon mastering, action figures, and video games.

This past Friday, Van Howe, in collaboration with VJ, DJ, and developer, Lerk, performed his new video live and in real time on Twitch. We’ve got that video for new single “cincodecinco” exclusively for you today.

Van Howe and Lerk built custom control panels for the iPad and mapped functions to an Xbox controller so that both of them could perform the camera, edits, and special effects of the music video for the track live.  This was accomplished using touchdesigner, chataigne, magic music visuals, touchosc, NestDrop, loopmidi, ableton live, obs, and snapcam.
