Tomorrow is the last day of Summer. So we’re sending you out with the perfect bedroom anthem for unrequited summer love. This is Michael Figueroa. He hails from the Bay Area and we’re told he’s going to be dropping singles on the reg. The first one is two minutes of bliss, called “Love You, I Don’t.” Sounds confusing. But if love is anything, it’s confusing.
Late night I still think about you
All the times I said I loved you
Strange times driving right by your house
There’s such a delicate innocence to the lyrics and they match the end of summer vibes of the instrumentation perfectly. Figueroa is carving out his own unique space in the indie music scene, and he’s doing it with a refreshing honesty that’s hard to overlook. Embracing his real name, Figueroa steps into the spotlight with a sense of authenticity that feels both personal and relatable. His sound is a heartfelt tribute to the indie boom of the early 2010s, drawing inspiration from artists like Toro y Moi, Mac DeMarco, and Bahamas—who have shaped the sonic landscape he navigates. At the same time, he channels the rich textures of the late seventies, weaving an adventurous spirit into his music that feels both nostalgic and timeless.
About the inspiration for the song Figueroa says “This track just showed up, didn’t have to chase it down. It came from a real place. Those are the best.” Who are we to argue? Those really are the best. We’re excited to see what he’s got queued up for Fall!
