Icelandic indie-folk trio LÓN today releases “Hold On” the new single from their atmospheric forthcoming debut album “Thankfully Distracted” which will be released May 15, 2022. Featuring one of Iceland’s most beloved singers, Valdimar Guðmundsson (better known as front-man of 6-piece rock and roll band Valdimar), the album is an exploration of his folk roots along with powerhouse performers Ásgeir Aðalsteinsson (guitar) and Ómar Guðjónsson (guitar). The three long-time friends and collaborators made sure not to miss the opportunity presented to them with the 2020 lockdown and decided to gather in a cabin by Iceland´s biggest lake in order to make music with no plan or agenda. Just the idea of having a safe space to create. Something clicked and the result is a melodic and mesmerizing collection of ten original songs written, performed and produced by the band itself.
“’Hold On’ has kind of a nostalgic feel to it,” says Aðalsteinsson. “After a rough day we wander back in time and reminisce about being young and carefree. Driving all night without a destination or being drunk and getting into trouble. It’s good to have someone by our side when things get hard. Someone to share those memories with. Someone we can hold on to.”
With decades’ worth of experience in the music industry and a handful of university degrees in music between them, the members of LÓN have played in countless bands and toured Europe and North America.
Valdimar and Ásgeir’s previous project Valdimar has been one of Iceland´s most successful indie-bands for the past ten years. It has earned them two Icelandic Music Awards for Best Rock Song (2016) and Best Rock Album (2018).
Ómar has played with many of Iceland´s most prestigious artists as guitarist and bandleader. He is a member of instrumental jazz/rock band adhd, and front man of Icelandic/German duet ROFOROFO. Ómar received the Iceladic Music Awards for Best Jazz Album (2009 and 2010), Best Jazz Song (2019) and Best produced album (2018).
LÓN will make its U.S. live debut in Kansas City, MO at the Folk Alliance International Conference running from May 18-22, 2022. Details and additional shows to be announced soon.
