The beautiful and soulful “PERFECT LOVE“, is available on all streaming and download platforms now. This songwriting collaboration stemmed from a world tour with Jazz trumpeter, Chris Botti. Smith and Eckroth have been guests on each other’s live shows and/or solo albums, but this is their first single release as a duo of sorts.
“Rachel had planted the seeds for this song for a while ago. But the shelter-in-place order gave us both the opportunity to really sit with it, tend to it, and watch it fully grow into something we think is kinda stunning. It’s like a lush garden full of color and sounds, and I love it,” mentions Sy. “Perfect Love, started as a simple song and became a beautiful collaboration with musicians I highly admire. As producer, I wanted to present something with colorful sonic ideas and groove textures. These guys helped make my ideas a reality,” adds Rachel.
This Emmy-nominated singer/songwriter has been dubbed by her peers as the “queen of underground soul”. Sy Smith is considered one of the leaders of the indie soul movement (having released 5 CDs/3 EPs/1 DVD). She’s also recorded and/or toured with some of the biggest names in R&B, hip-hop and jazz (Whitney Houston, Meshell Ndegeocello, The Foreign Exchange, Sheila E., and Pete Escovedo to name a few). In 2018 she released her 5th studio project – “Sometimes A Rose Will Grow In Concrete” – which she wrote & produced entirely herself, winning 2 Los Angeles Black Music Awards, 2 KMOVE Radio KOOL Awards, gaining 3 nominations from SoulTracks.com and earning placements in several music bloggers’ Best Of 2018 lists. Some of her most recent notable collaborations include Sy’s co-writing and feature on Chris Dave & The Drumhedz’ 2019 Grammy-nominated self-titled album and providing vocal arrangements for John Legend’s Grammy-nominated LP “A Legendary Christmas”.
Singer and Keyboardist Rachel Eckroth’s most recent work as a sideman includes world tours with Rufus Wainwright, Chris Botti, KT Tunstall, and Donny McCaslin. In 2018-2019 she performed as a solo artist on the Rufus Wainwright’s ‘All These Poses’ Tour with her 2018 album, When It Falls.
