Review by Amanda Daubert – If you’re searching for something new to rock out to, it’s time to check out Toronto’s own Vilivant, who dropped her debut full-length album Running on Empty last week. Sounding like the immaculate love-child of Metallica, Evanescence and Paramore, lead singer Julia Gentile showcases her exceptional range, both musically and vocally, in this 8 track powerhouse album.
Kicking off the album is “In My Life,” a strong way to start with a heavy track coupled with powerful vocals, hitting intense high notes, which could stand up to any metal track! Next, we turn up the angst with “Moving Forward,” featuring fierce lyrics, strong power chords, and a breathy delivery. Title track “Running On Empty” is aptly named as this track, and this album, really gives you it’s all. Slowing it down slightly with “Drown,” Vilivant shows us that rock power-ballads can be delivered with strength and grace.
From start to finish, Running on Empty checks every box for a stand out rock album. Be sure to check it out for yourself on all your favorite streaming services, and catch Vilivant on her mini tour through Ontario and Quebec now through May with a variety of special guests!
