Canadian singer-songwriter Suzie McNeil, best known for her chart-topping pop hits like “Super Girl”, “Believe”, “Hung Up”, and “Drama Queen”, has unveiled her latest musical endeavor – a soulful and enchanting cover of The Tragically Hip’s iconic track, “Bobcaygeon”.
“Bobcaygeon” has long held a special place in the hearts of music fans across Canada and beyond, serving as a quintessential piece of The Tragically Hip’s legacy. In paying tribute to the track, McNeil joins a distinguished list of Canadian artists who have lent their voices to reinterpret the song in their unique styles.
Her rendition of “Bobcaygeon” is a departure from her pop-rock roots, showcasing her remarkable versatility as an artist, and a strong new direction for her music. Infused with a smooth soulful vibe, the cover captures the essence of the song, offering a fresh perspective that pays homage to the original while bridging the gap between generations and musical genres.
McNeil, who was nominated for a Juno Award for New Artist of the Year in 2008, will be inducted into the Mississauga Walk of Fame on September 10th, followed by a mainstage performance at Mississauga’s annual Southside Shuffle that afternoon, accompanied by her band “The Chain Reaction”.
She is also currently touring as a backup singer with rock legends Aerosmith on their “Peace Out” farewell tour. McNeil has been performing with Aerosmith since 2019, after recording and touring extensively with Steven Tyler on his 2016 debut solo studio album “We’re All Somebody from Somewhere”.
Rounding out the year for McNeil will be the release of her second full-length Christmas album on November 24, 2023. Her debut holiday album, “This Is Christmas” (2012), spawned a chart-topping single for the title track, an original song that consistently earns its place as one of the most frequently played Christmas tunes on Canadian radio.
