Scottish favourites, Texas, today release a ray of sunshine with their joyous video for new single ‘You Can Call Me’. The track is taken from their UK Top 3 album, ‘Hi’, which was released earlier this year, the band’s highest charting studio album since ‘The Hush’ in 1999.
The video for ‘You Can Call Me’, directed by long-term collaborator Angelica Bjornsson, is filmed at Sharleen Spiteri’s beautiful home in Wales; filmed to look like a series of home tapes, the abundance of greenery and sun soaked shots echo channel the track’s summer-filled vibe. Of the video, Sharleen said: “Home is where my heart is, so I wanted to share a little bit of that feeling with this video.”
The release follows the bands incredible performance at Glasgow’s St Luke’s last month as part of the Radio 2 Live series; the performance is available to watch in full on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds now.
Texas’ 10th album, ‘Hi’ is a stunning result of looking back with eyes fixed firmly on the future. Collaborations include ‘Dark Fire’, written with Richard Hawley, a lovely tune that recalls the spirit of a slow dance at a high school prom while ‘Look What You’ve Done’, is an intoxicating, classic duet where Sharleen trades verses with Clare Grogan (Altered Images).
Other highlights include the swaggering collaboration with the Wu-Tang Clan on the title track, the soul-soaked ‘Mr Haze’ and the nostalgic, ‘Just Wanna Be Liked’.
Alongside today’s video release, Texas have also announced a show at Dundee’s Caird Hall, making it the first of their Feb 2022 tour. Texas’ first ever gig was in Dundee making it the perfect starting point as Sharleen explains, “I can’t believe 33 years later we are bringing it back to Dundee, we are going full circle and it feels exactly right!”
