“Laugh. circles the theme around tragedy and how to deal with feeling extremely down and heavy hearted in both good and bad times. It is honest to a fault without pretense. While dealing with this heavy subject matter, we also intended to showcase our ever present goofiness, silliness, and ability to find humor in dark places.” says The Gooms.
The band continues to share: “The album title Laugh. is a command, thanks to the period at the end of the word. It’s telling you to be happy and smile and feel good in a time where it’s hard to do so. Even the album title on the artwork is arched down with a shape of a frown. There are contrasting parallels between dark themes and upbeat sounds within our music.”
The Gooms consist of lead singer/guitarist Chase Buttons, lead guitarist/singer Nicole Rae, bassist Ryan Meagher, and drummer Shane Lawrence. The group combines their love of punk, pop, surf, and jazz to create a dynamic, feel-good sound with catchy hooks that will lift you off your feet. Since they released their debut EP, With an M in October 2018, The Gooms have established themselves in the LA music scene, selling out a month-long residency at The Satellite and turning heads with their performances at local music festivals such as Echo Park Rising and Kaaboo in San Diego. Their music has been featured on KCRW’s ‘Morning Becomes Eclectic’ and ‘The Chris Douridas Show.’
The band shared their new song, “Free Sweaters? Fantastic!” yesterday. In discussing the song, “We’re slowly, but surely unraveling in the face of deciding which version of ourselves we want to be today – something many of us are feeling right now.”
The video personifies each member of the band trying on different outfits with unbearable laughter, constant character changes, and the complete loss of their collective sense. It is a frustrating search for identity riddled, lack of self-confidence and exploration. From a pirate to a drunk wealthy housewife, a vampire to a fancy man. “It’s the dark undertones of the song that are layered with silly jiggling and flailing air guitar that make for an eye catching music video you can’t help but dance to.”
The group will be performing a concert on June 11 at 8pm PT via Twitch. The concert will take place from The Social Sanctuary Project LA. Feel free to watch here.
