The Luka State are sharing the music video for their recently-released, high-powered single “Matter of Fact,” taken from their forthcoming album More Than This – out March 10, 2023 via Thirty Tigers. In contrast to the social issues and single-minded defiance explored in The Luka State’s recent releases, “Matter of Fact” sees Conrad Ellis confront his own weaknesses and vulnerabilities in relationships – and his searing delivery indicates that his lyrics come straight from the heart. The band’s DIY ethic is further highlighted by the video being shot in drummer Jake’s house.
As we’ve heard on the recent singles “More Than This,” “Stick Around,” “Bring Us Down” and “Oxygen Thief,” “Matter of Fact” sees The Luka State hitting the sweet spot that coexists between its anthemic hook, gnarly wall-of-sound guitars, and propulsive, driving energy – a mix that was realized with the help of the persistence and expertise of the Grammy Award-winning producer Adrian Bushby (Foo Fighters, Muse, U2). The Luka State also recorded their forthcoming album with producer Dan Austin (Biffy Clyro, You Me At Six, Pixies) at Liverpool’s Motor Museum (The 1975, Bring Me the Horizon) and EVE, near Manchester. The band recently announced details of a tour of the U.K. and Europe, beginning in March 2023. Dates below.
Conrad Ellis explains, “Sometimes when singing these kinds of songs in the studio I get into character to really find the emotion of the song. This video was so fun as I was able to bring that character to life. I always find that alongside a fantastic actor like Tilly Sutcliffe makes things a little bit easier! I hope people really enjoy the video as much as we did making it.”
The video’s director, Jim de Whalley adds, “I was inspired by the way “Matter Of Fact” depicts love in an almost claustrophobic manner. The video depicts one such evening when everything breaks down and the male protagonist is ruminating on how they got there and what they can do to turn things around.”
