With her latest video, Canadian Pop artist Ann@lise delivers a poignant, emotional performance of her song “User Friendly”, from her recently released seven-song EP Welcome To The Sh!T Show. Stripping back the song to its bare essence, consisting of just piano and her vocals, the acoustic performance serves to not only highlight her vocal prowess and lend a greater emphasis to the painful realizations tucked away in the lyrics, but it also shows a vulnerable side to the outspoken and feisty artist.

The intensely personal song sees the singer-songwriter reflecting on toxic relationships from her past, intending it to serve as a cautionary tale, as opposed to self-deprecating, in a bid to help reconcile uncomfortable truths about the motives of others.

“You don’t always see the true colours of others right away, and that’s what this song touches upon. I’d like to think we all emerge stronger and wiser from those kinds of situations. Nonetheless, it was something I needed to get off my chest and to let those people hear first-hand how those experiences shaped me.”

Her bold and uncompromising vision to Welcome To The Sh!t Show, on which she proudly wears her heart on her sleeve, warts and all, is sophisticated and often lyrically witty as she tackles subjects based on personal experiences from the hindsight examination of toxic relationships, wild nights on the town, eating disorders and hangers-on, among others.
