With a nod to the sometimes potent power of naiveté, pop-country singer-songwriter Erin Gibney’s latest single, “Naive,” is a reminder that, on occasion, not knowing everything before you begin something is really okay. If we all knew how high the mountain was to climb, we might never start the journey. The Nashville-based Gibney’s voice is a warm hug, both empowering and reassuring, the message powerfully conveyed in her warm and likable vocals. This is pop-country at its finest. “Naive” was written by Jennifer Denmark, Nicolle Galyon, Jimmy Robbins, and one of Gibney’s musical heroes, Kelsea Ballerini. Out January 28, 2022, the song is an anthem we can all relate to — as the lyric line says: “Winning comes from thinking that you couldn’t lose.” Amplify Music Magazine has the exclusive premiere for the song right here, right now.  We also sat down recently with Gibney to talk about the song, her influences, and what’s next for this up-and-coming, stellar performer!

What made you want to record this song?  What about it connected for you and made you interested in wanting to make it your own?

When I heard this song in June of 2020, I immediately felt a strong connection to it. I remember listening to it on repeat for days and knowing that if I didn’t make this song a part of my catalog, I would always regret it. I really relate to the message in “Naive,” and I think that’s where the connection to it comes from. It is all about being empowered to follow your heart even if people deem it naive to do so. There have been so many times in my life that I have felt naive for the path I’ve chosen to take in music. In the end, following my dream turned out to be the smartest thing I have ever done. This song resonates so deeply with me, and I feel extremely grateful to have the opportunity to release it.

When you recorded this song, what kind of vibe were you going for?  Did it end up sounding like you expected it to or did it come out different from what you thought it would be?

I wanted this song to feel both nostalgic and empowering at the same time. I wanted people to feel inspired to go after whatever it is that makes them “naive,” while still keeping the sweetness of the song. Marshall Altman, the producer on “Naive,” did an incredible job at making that happen.

What do you hope listeners get from the song?  What message do you hope it conveys?

I want each listener to hear this song and be reminded that going after their dreams, despite how others see it, is never a mistake. Going after the life you truly want may not always seem logical, but it can make you happier than you ever thought possible.

Who are your biggest influences, musically speaking?

My two biggest musical influences are Taylor Swift and Kelsea Ballerini. I have always admired how honest they are in their music and how they aren’t afraid to explore other genres. It feels incredibly surreal to be able to say that Kelsea is a writer on this track.

What’s next for Erin Gibney?

The next step for me is to simply continue making and releasing music that I am proud of and sharing it with the world! Right now, I feel focused on building a catalog that really describes who I am as an artist.
