Photos by Sharon Steele – Volbeat is a Danish rock band formed in Copenhagen in 2001, known for their unique fusion of rock and roll, heavy metal, and rockabilly. Founded by vocalist and guitarist Michael Poulsen, the band initially emerged from the ashes of his previous death metal project, Dominus. The name “Volbeat” was inspired by Dominus’s third album, Vol.Beat. Their breakthrough came with the 2010 album Beyond Hell/Above Heaven, which achieved triple platinum status in Denmark and Austria, and gold certifications in several countries, including the United States.
Over the years, Volbeat has evolved both musically and in lineup, with the departure of guitarist Rob Caggiano in 2023 leaving the band as a trio. Despite this change, they released their ninth studio album, God of Angels Trust, on June 6, 2025. The album was recorded in a remarkably short 13-day period and showcases a more forceful and unconventional approach to songwriting. The lead single, “By a Monster’s Hand,” was released in March 2025, followed by “In the Barn of the Goat Giving Birth to Satan’s Spawn in a Dying World of Doom” in April, and “Time Will Heal” in May. In support of the album, Volbeat embarked on the “Greatest of All Tours Worldwide,” a 70-date world tour that includes co-headlining dates in Canada with Three Days Grace and Wage War.
