On the day of Shae’s high school graduation, she launched her career with the release of her first single, “Grandpa’s Truck.” The single attracted the attention of CMT Canada, naming her ‘Fresh Face Artist’. Later that fall in 2016, she released her second studio EP, “Brave”, and garnered multiple nominations from the CMAO Awards for her songs, “Tin Man” and “Drink About It”. Soon after, Dupuy went on to earn in 2017, the CCMA nomination for ‘Interactive Artist of the Year’.

We had a chance to catchup with her and ask a few questions.

Hard to believe if somebody hasn’t heard of Shae Dupuy, but if they haven’t, please tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a singer-songwriter from Ontario, Canada, living in Nashville, TN! I’m a storyteller at heart, and that’s what brought me to country music. I love to write about the messier parts of life and love.

By launching your career right after high school, you must have had a plan during those formative years.
I’ve always had a love for singing and writing since I was little, but I didn’t know until a little later in life that my love for those things could be a career and not just my passion. I began to do my research and ask as many people as I could who were living the life I wanted to, what they did and what worked for them.

We hear you have a new ballad called “Black and White.” Tell us about the inspiration for the song.
As an artist, I tend to romanticize things. I wrote Black and White about a breakup I was having a hard time accepting because it was just a case of two people being very different and not working out, and I wanted so badly to have something to blame.

We hear that there’s an EP in the works. Any details you would like to tell us about.
I do! I’m currently finishing picking the songs and working on recording the last part of the EP! We’re looking at releasing that early 2021.

Has moving to Nashville been a positive experience? Having to compete with all the talent there.
It’s been positive! Being in a town with so much talent is a driving force behind my career. Continually having to better yourself and being surrounded by so many great artists is inspiring. I am thankful to be here and to be apart of that community.

Curious to know who you are listening to while creating your own music.
Some of my favorites are Fleetwood Mac, Maren Morris, Donovan Woods, Lady A, Kacey Musgraves, The Lumineers, and Hozier!

If there’s anything else that you would like us to know.
