Growing up surrounded by the glittery Nashville music scene, acclaimed singer and songwriter, Natalie Hemby, regularly came across some of the industry’s biggest names. In Heroes, a brand-new song and video she debuts today via Fantasy Records, the 2x GRAMMY-winning artist cautions that fantasy doesn’t often match reality. “When I think heroes, I think capes / Chasing villains stopping trains / Half incredible Half insane / Uh huh” she sings at the top of the driving, Sheryl Crow inspired track. Listen to Heroes and watch the video here.

Hemby co-wrote Heroes with Jeff Trot and Aaron Raitiere and it is produced by her husband and collaborator Mike Wrucke (Miranda Lambert).

“That’s my own story because I grew up in the music business,” recalled Hemby. “After a while, I didn’t want to meet them unless I knew they were good people. I wrote that from my own personal space.”

In the Heroes video, directed by Sophia Lauer (Cage The Elephant, Liza Anne), a young girl played by Maisy Stella (best known as Daphne Conrad from ABC’s Nashville), idolizes the glamorous actress on screen, oblivious to uglier reality behind-the-scenes.

Natalie Hemby is one of the most successful and sought-after songwriters in music. In 2019, Hemby joined Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris and Amanda Shires to form The Highwomen; their self-titled debut album was widely hailed as one of the year’s best. In March of 2021, Natalie won the Country Song of the Year GRAMMY® for co-writing The Highwomen’s Crowded Table. (She was also nominated in the same category for her collaboration with Miranda Lambert on Lambert’s smash single, Bluebird. Last year, Hemby won her first GRAMMY® Award, Best Song Written for Visual Media for Lady Gaga’s I’ll Never Love Again, from A Star Is Born.
