Artist Niki Kennedy has had an explosive international music career. Since moving to Canada from New Zealand at the young age of 16 to attend Toronto’s exclusive Randolph College for Performing Arts, the talented artist has had her music described as “versatile and demanding” by Music Existence, and Vents Magazine added that her “melodic tones and skillfully crafted harmonies… will leave you in awe”. Her first release of 2021, “The Last Night (Dancing With You)” spent 6 weeks in the #1 spot on the Heart of Indie Radio Chart, and she has just been chosen to participate in SOCAN Foundation’s Incubator for Creative Entrepreneurship Program.
Niki has had her music played across radio stations all over the world including within Canada, the US, the United Kingdom and Australia. Her hybrid, refined pop sound has brought her over 200,000 streams on Spotify, has led to numerous TV appearances, and her work has received rave reviews from local and international outlets. An artist who holds herself to the highest musical integrity, Niki took Ryan Tedder’s month-long production class and collaborated with Grammy Award nominee Joao Carvalho (Tragically Hip, KD Lang, Blue Rodeo) and Shane Stephenson on her upcoming single, “Fall Back Into You”.
In an effort to break herself out of her musical comfort zone, Niki signed up for a month-long music production class taught by Grammy Award winning artist and producer, Ryan Tedder, which challenged attendees to write and complete one song every ten days. The rapid pace of the course combined with all of the methods and tips Tedder shared led to the first song Niki wrote as part of the program, “Fall Back Into You”. “The pace didn’t allow us to hold ourselves back in writing, like so many songwriters often do”. With the challenge of creating a song from a vibe and approaching her art from her feelings as opposed to looking at it logically, “Fall Back Into You” was born.
Calling “Fall Back Into You” the one song that best represents her from her entire catalogue, Niki has made an effort to allow the listener to derive their own meaning from the melodic and delicate pop ballad. A song about a relationship, as Niki says “of any kind”, “Fall Back Into You” uses sonic representations to allude to and describe feelings. “It. can be a romantic relationship, a friendship, or a relationship with alcohol or drugs”. Using soundscaping and vocal production to take the song to the next level, Niki recorded her own voice 50 times to create a layered, full-bodied choir in the background of the song. Showcasing her advanced vocal talent and deep understanding of song structure, Niki’s latest single was intentionally created to move the listener, whether physically or emotionally. With every element led by a feeling, the enveloping sounds of “Fall Back Into You” feel like a familiar moment in time for any listener, no matter how they define what that moment was.
