One of Vancouver’s most exciting emerging acts, cherry pick, will release her sophomore EP titled :3 on June 2 viaLight Organ Records. To coincide with the EP announcement, cherry pick has released the dynamic, heavy and melodic single “asleep with the fishes”, a track written after an intense and destabilizing psychedelic experience.

“This song documents a self-imposed confrontation with mortality that spiralled into ego death,” shares cherry pick. “What began as an attempt to face a fear of dying became something overwhelming and transformative.”

“asleep with the fishes” appears on the sophomore EP release, joining previously released single “aster”, which received coverage in Billboard Canada and The Line of Best Fit and was one of 3am Revelations’ ‘Songs of the week’. “asleep with the fishes” is out now on all digital streaming platforms.

The accompanying music video, directed by Derek Janzen, presents a deliberately understated performance framed through a soft, lo-fi lens. Its subtle distortion evokes the texture of 90s grunge era videos, echoing and amplifying the track’s hazy, atmospheric quality.

The new EP :3 marks a significant evolution for cherry pick. The 6 new tracks offer a more expansive, fully realized body of work that solidifies their identity as both a songwriter and sonic architect. Produced by Vancouver-based singer-songwriter Cam Blakealongside cherry herself, :3 highlights cherry’s multifaceted artistry, blending haunting intimate vocals with pitch-shifting guitars, driving drums and atmospheric bass, all performed entirely solo.

The beautiful collection of songs, lyrically centre on aftermath and emotional reckoning, confronting betrayal, harm, and the process of healing. It moves from anger and clarity to moments of tenderness in recovery, as well as, exploring lingering psychological unease.

In support of her forthcoming EP, cherry pick is set to perform a number of shows across Canada and the U.S, including two performances in Toronto this week. The first appearance will be at Departure Festival on May 7 at The Garrison at 9 pm ET and the Loveless Club 013 (Pre-Fest Showcase) on May 10 at Supermarket. After 7 dates in the U.S, cherry will wrap up the tour with a show in Vancouver on June 28 at Green Auto.
