STONE TEMPLE PILOTS

Stone Temple Pilots formed in San Diego, California, in 1989 and rose to prominence during the grunge explosion of the early 1990s. Founded by brothers Dean DeLeo and Robert DeLeo alongside drummer Eric Kretz and vocalist Scott Weiland, the band blended hard rock, alternative rock, and psychedelic influences into a sound that was uniquely their own. Their breakthrough debut album, Core (1992), spawned iconic singles including “Plush,” “Sex Type Thing,” “Wicked Garden,” and “Creep,” establishing them as one of the era’s biggest rock acts.

Throughout the 1990s, Stone Temple Pilots continued their success with multi-platinum albums such as PurpleTiny Music… Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop, and No. 4. Tracks like “Interstate Love Song,” “Vasoline,” “Big Empty,” “Trippin’ on a Hole in a Paper Heart,” and “Sour Girl” showcased the band’s versatility, moving effortlessly between grunge, classic rock, glam, and psychedelic influences. Despite lineup challenges and periods of hiatus, the band’s songwriting and musicianship earned critical reappraisal over time, solidifying their place among the most influential American rock bands of their generation.

Following the passing of Scott Weiland in 2015 and a brief period with vocalist Chester Bennington, Stone Temple Pilots entered a new era with lead singer Jeff Gutt, who joined in 2017. The band has since released new music while honoring its legacy, continuing to tour internationally and celebrate a catalog that has sold millions of albums worldwide. Decades after their debut, Stone Temple Pilots remain a cornerstone of modern rock, admired for their enduring creativity, timeless songs, and lasting influence on alternative and hard rock music.
