New York City’s electronic lo-fi funk visionary Nick Vivid is back with fresh fire. Today he releases “Volunteer,” the first single from his forthcoming album Volatile, due October 24, 2025, via MegaPlatinum Records. Known for fusing glam rock swagger, underground grit, and experimental electronic textures, Vivid continues to bend genres into his own sonic universe. “‘Volunteer’ is about having a giving nature and the heartbreak of being taken for granted,” Vivid shares. “It’s my personal favorite on the album—I love the melody, the chord structures, the tones, and the interplay of instruments. It just turned out beautifully.”
Loosely a concept album, Volatile looks back on the raw, uncertain years after Vivid first moved to New York City.“These songs are me reflecting on a time when everything felt full of joy, fear, wild expectations, and shattered dreams,” he explains. Highlights include “Too Toxic,” a densely layered track about silencing inner critics; “V-O-L-A-T-I-L-E,” the explosive title cut written in a single burst of inspiration; and “Volunteer,” a bittersweet meditation on generosity and loss. With its balance of futuristic textures and retro flair, the record draws from disco, funk, glam, and lo-fi electronics—cementing Vivid’s reputation as a fearless innovator.
The sonic world of Volatile is as hand-crafted as its themes are personal. In true DIY fashion, Vivid built much of the recording gear himself—from homemade guitar pedals and synth filters to preamps modeled after Giorgio Moroder’s legendary Helios console. “With this album I finally feel like I’ve built the studio of my dreams and captured the sound I always imagined in my head,” he says. Mixed entirely to tape, the album embodies both vintage warmth and boundary-pushing invention. With Volatile, Nick Vivid delivers not just songs, but a self-made sonic universe—equal parts autobiographical reflection and fearless artistic leap.
