Toronto based indie rockers, The Sarandons today unveil their new single “Deep End” and firmly establish that they continue to be on the upswing, following a busy summer, which included stellar performances at Hillside and Ottawa Bluesfest. With its calm purview of new beginnings, “Deep End” gracefully instructs on how to rebound from life’s quicksand.
Establishing blunt force truth, Dave Suchon (vocals, guitar) admits he’s “finally starting to breathe,” after acknowledging the feeling of being pulled under in liminal spaces. Oozing with brisk guitar lines courtesy of Craig Keeney (lead guitar) and a shimmering, crisp ascending Rhodes piano from Ed Cummings (keyboards, vocals), The Sarandons have pinpointed the healthiest means of confronting pain from a past life, choosing love in lieu of malice.
Recorded in Toronto at Taurus Recording, “Deep End” introduces new member, Peter Landi (drums) whose syncopated fills immediately lock in with the melodic low end provided by Damian Coleman (bass, vocals). They reunited with producer Devon Lougheed (When in Rome, Skye Wallace, Ron Hawkins, Teagan Johnston, Nefe) for the first time since 2021’s Outrunning EP, while mixing engineer Will Crann (Jade Eagleson, Blue Rodeo, Ellevator, Cam Kahin) returns to provide a through-line from 2024’s Drawing Deadrecord.
The Sarandons continue to be on the upswing, with the last year seeing charting on multiple US, Canadian and German radio stations, regular play on SiriusXM, and performances at festivals like Ottawa Bluesfest and Hillside. The band have shared the stage with The Decemberists, City and Colour, JJ Wilde, Kiwi Jr.,Kasador, Union Duke, Altered by Mom, Ten Minute Detour and Gavin McLeod.
