GRAMMY & JUNO Award-winning artist and songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk releases “Rockstar Joy,” the title track from her forthcoming album, due out this fall. Comprised of ten brand-new original songs, Rockstar Joy sees Kreviazuk returning to her own stories after revisiting the songs she wrote for others on In My Own Voice. The release also coincides with the publication of I’m Going To Break Your Heart: A Rock ‘n’ Roll Love Story, the memoir she co-authored with husband Raine Maida, currently on the Canadian bestseller list.
Written entirely by Kreviazuk and produced by acclaimed producer Eric Rosse, “Rockstar Joy” is an intimate reflection on loving someone whose life belongs as much to the stage as it does to home. The song trades the mythology of rock and roll for something far more personal, revealing the contrast between the performer who commands a room and the quiet person who comes home.
“I’m excited to release a song that’s so true to my experience as the wife of a rockstar,” says Kreviazuk. “I always hope that after he gives so much out there, he’ll save some joy for me. But I think that’s something a lot of people feel about the people they love. We all hope that after they give so much of themselves to their work, there’s still a little joy left when they come home.”
Anchored by Kreviazuk’s signature piano and warm, organic production, “Rockstar Joy” offers the first glimpse into a new collection that brings her own perspective and original songwriting back to the forefront. Recorded at Fuse Studio in Stockholm, Sweden, the track pairs Kreviazuk’s vocal and piano with drums from Matt Chamberlain, guitars from Niko Rosse, backing vocals from Satya Rosse, and strings and bass from Eric Rosse.
The announcement arrives during an exceptionally prolific period for Kreviazuk. Earlier this year, In My Own Voice brought renewed attention to her remarkable songwriting catalogue through intimate reinterpretations of songs made famous by Drake, Kelly Clarkson, Kendrick Lamar, Pitbull, Christina Aguilera and more. With Rockstar Joy, she shifts from revisiting the songs she wrote for others to introducing a brand-new body of work that reflects where she is today as a songwriter, artist and storyteller.
Fresh off a U.S. tour and with a cross-Canada run alongside Maida scheduled for this fall, Kreviazuk continues to connect with audiences across music, literature and live performance.
