Folk singer-songwriter Matthew Barber recently wrapped up a run of Ontario tour dates with his longtime friend Andrew Shaver of Clever Hopes and Rebekah Hawker, previewing new music from his forthcoming album, Find The Time, due out November 20 on Outside Music. Today, he is thrilled to share the undeniably catchy title track, a heartfelt reflection on how life changes when you become a parent.
“It’s about getting older and becoming more aware of the fact that our time on earth is finite,” shares Barber. “It is a melancholy reflection on the struggle to live up to ideals, but also a rallying cry to never give up doing what you do, for your own sake and for those who depend on you.”
Everything changed when you came along
Everything changed I couldn’t write a song
But I love you more than anything
Every day you make me wanna sing
The single follows the lead track “These Days,” which is currently spinning on CBC Music and up for voting on the Top 20. The track also garnered love from Apple Music’s New Music Daily, New in Singer Songwriter, Today’s Acoustic, as well as Amazon Music’s Canada Now and Cottage Nights, alongside coverage from Great Dark Wonder, 3AM Revelations, PhotogMusic, plus spins across the country from CKUA to Indie 88 and beyond.
Alongside the new single, he is excited to announce a Toronto album release show at The Cameron House on Friday, November 27, from 6-8 p.m. Before then, he’ll take part in Everybody Here Wants You – The Music of Jeff Buckley at Hugh’s Room on November 17, what would have been Buckley’s 60th birthday, and November 18.
What’s The Story About Find The Time LP?
After more than 20 years as a professional musician, Barber embraced a new role when he became a father. In 2026, being a stay at home dad is hardly an oddity, but stepping away from a life of touring to raise his two young sons marked a dramatic shift.
Becoming a parent forced him to look in the mirror and ask, “How can I be a better person?” and “How can we make the world a better place?” These questions weave their way throughout Find The Time, a record that explores the transformational nature of parenthood and the profound changes that come with it.
From indie darling to major-label radio star to acclaimed folk troubadour, and now Dad, Barber remains eternally grateful for the opportunity to make music. There will be more tour dates to come, but this time, alongside the cables and guitars, he’ll be strapping in some car seats.
